Tulum
Tulum is unique in that it is the only walled Mayan ruin
directly on the Caribbean Sea. ¨Tulum¨ means ¨”Wall”
in Mayan. This city had a great influence in the Mayan
culture, in the land and sea trade, since all the
routes in that time (1020-1521) ran through to this city. There have
been found vestige artifacts from Mexico to Central America,
like pottery, copper, jade, obsidian items. It was also a
ceremonial center, since it has many monuments dedicated to
the Mayan gods, such as El Templo del Dios Descendente (The
Descending God Temple), El Castillo (The Castle), El Templo de
los Iniciados (The Initiated Ones Temple), as well as paints
and masks from the God Chaac.
In the last two decades the
development of the area surrounding the archeological site has
taken place with a particular style more suited for free
spirits. South of the ruins various cabana style boutique
hotels, villas and condos have sprung up, respecting the super
natural ambiance of this south part of the Mayan Riviera.

Tulum Pueblo (town), located on highway 307,
two miles from the shore line has taken a life of its own. The
main street, Highway 307, offers a variety of quaint small
restaurants, souvenir shops and night clubs.
The mixed ambiance of Tulum Pueblo,
the cabanas on the beach, the secluded villas, the proximity
to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere and the exotic flare of the only
Mayan site facing the Caribbean Sea, make Tulum the most
sought after destination for visionary investors. |
